To Become a CMC Trip Leader

There are four steps to becoming a trip leader, some managed by State and some by the local group in Boulder. The overview web page is here, summary is below.

1) Preparation — Online video/quiz based training on CMC policies and expectations of trip leaders, called the CMC TLS and Co-Assemble Class. Link to that web page is here.

2) Certification — In person Wilderness First Aid (WFA) training, two full days, offered on two weekends each month at rotating locations. Trip leaders will be granted scholarships to cover the $250 cost of the course. A listing of upcoming WFA classes can be found at this link.

3) Immersion — Scenario session field day, rehearsing how to handle the most common issues that trip leaders will experience. These classes are being conformed across the CMC, but there are some differences in teaching styles between the groups. An example course description can be found at this link.

4) Mentorship — Connect with a mentor leader to plan, post, organize, and lead a trip, with your mentor shadowing and assisting you. Several mentors are available and ready to help in Boulder, and a list of Denver based mentors is available here.
